First Day Jitters…

FINALLY!!!! The moment we’ve been waiting for since March 17th when the Governor shut down schools in IL! It’s here, the highly anticipated night before the First Day of School!! COVID or No COVID I still get nervous the night before! It’s one of my favorite days of the entire school year, but one the most sleepless nights of the year!

This year has many more emotions as it’s not our typical first day. Along with teaching the rules and procedures, we’ll be practicing social distancing, washing our hands more frequently, sanitizing, mask breaks, and of course wearing masks.

There have been lots of changes and sometimes it’s difficult to accept change. Especially in a situation like we’re in now. There are still many unknowns, but we’ll never know if we don’t push forward and give it a whirl! Everyone deals with change differently! Lets remember to help each other, ask questions, keep an open-mind, and give each other some grace.

Our classrooms will be filled with kiddos, laughter, story telling, learning, and we’re going to make the best of everything we can! Regardless if it’s for one week, one month, or of course the entire school year, I’ll take it! If I’ve learned anything through this it’s, “Take One Day at a Time” Be your kid/kids biggest cheerleader! We’ve made it this far…. So “We can and will get through it!!!”

Deep breaths…. Mamas, Grandmas, Caregivers…..

Remember… “One Day at a Time!”

With that being said I wanted to share what I do every night to prepare for the next day of work. This didn’t happen over night!!!
It helps ease my anxiousness the night before the First Day of School as well as the entire school year!

The Night Before School at The Havens’ House:
Have you ever woken up in the morning and changed your outfit 5 times, realize a shirt needs ironed, or you’re just not feeling it?! Well, this helps alleviate ALL of that!! It’s one habit that’s tried and true…..

I lay out my clothes every night before work! The summer is an exception as I’m usually sporting lounge wear! Laying out my clothes is a habit I inherited from my mother. It’s something that I’ve always done! It helps alleviate wasting time in the morning and being rushed to throw something together. Have you ever had those days where you’re just not feeling your outfit and you feel kinda blah!? I know I have and being organized with your outfits helps!

Not only do I lay out my own clothes, but I lay out my kids clothes, down to what socks their wearing! Yes, I said even their socks! It just makes life easier!! My husband is out the door by 6 or earlier for work so I don’t have an extra set of hands to help get everyone out the door. It’s just mamma and her three babes. It works for us and makes the morning run so much smoother!

Along with laying out our clothes I also make sure I have my breakfast ready to go. I’m not a big breakfast eater. I’ve been on an overnight oats kick. I make up a batch the night before and add my toppings in the morning! I also like to have my water bottle filled up.This ensures I get the majority of my water intake in. I leave post it notes or note cards out to remind me to get my lunch out of the fridge or if there’s something special I need to take. I like to put any extra items like diapers and wipes or anything extra that needs to go to daycare or school in my van the night before, with the exception of my school bag!

I can’t say I’m always on the ball on this one, but as the school year moves forward I’ll get in a better routine. If we’re out of k pods and I have to actually put my own coffee in the filters I generally do this the night before as well! Would it be easier to use the coffee machine at school, yes and sometimes I do! But I’m a little high maintenance on my coffee sooo it’s simplified if I do it at home as I have the needed additions.

If you have school aged children I would recommend laying out their book bags and checking them the night before! My little one will start Preschool soon and that’s my plan!

I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC start to their school year!

“Embrace the Change!!”

I also like to lay out my clothes, make sure my bags are packed, and my water bottle full. I definitely need to try putting the diaper bag to the car the night before.

Yes!! It’s so nice to have one less thing & helps ensure you won’t forget it!! Are you able to leave anything at daycare? I’ve always been able to leave all their things so I didn’t have to bring a diaper bag back and forth, which was also helpful!!
